Life with God is all about relationship. Can you believe it? The God who created the mountains, stars, and sky wants a direct relationship with YOU.
One of the best ways to develop a relationship with God is through prayer. Talk to God! He wants to be a part of our everyday lives.
What is the Purpose of Prayer?
The purpose of prayer is to communicate with God. Your prayers throughout the day can include praising God for Who He is and what He’s done in your life. Daily prayer should include repenting of your sins and asking God’s forgiveness. You can ask for prayer to get through the day. Ask for wisdom and peace, and pray for the needs of those around you. Finally, offer up your life to Him.
As you learn how to pray throughout the day, you will be in continuous communication with God. You will invite Him into every aspect of your life, and that will change your life! Watch how praying throughout the day transforms your relationship with Him and with others.
Pray Continually
The Bible encourages us to “pray continually” (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
When you’re in a new relationship with someone, you want to talk to them first thing in the morning, when you have spare time, or anytime something exciting or newsworthy happens. That’s the kind of relationship God wants with us!
How is that even possible? We’ll give you some tips later on.

God's Presence Gives Us Joy
You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever. -Psalm 16:11
When we’re talking to God in prayer, we’re in the presence of God. In the Bible book of Psalms, it says that in His presence there is fullness of joy.
Therefore, I try to be in God's presence as much as possible. I really need it! I have tried numerous tricks through the years to remember to invite God into whatever I'm doing.
8 Ways to Pray Throughout the Day
Waking Up
When I wake up in the morning, I say thanks to God. Before my feet hit the ground, before there’s a phone in my hand, I ask for His blessing on the day.
Shower
In the shower, I pray God would cleanse my inside as I cleanse the outside! We can pray over our plans for the day, and who we may be in contact with during the day.
Brushing Teeth
When I brush my teeth, I ask God to brush off anything on me that could hurt me. God is a good father, and He does not want us to get hurt.
Mealtime
I start every meal thanking God and inviting Him to be part of my mealtime and part of the conversation we’re having at the table.
New Appointments or Activities
Every time I go into a new meeting or start a new project, I try to remember to invite God into each thing as it begins. God wants to guide us and give us wisdom in our lives, and we have the opportunity to let Him into all our activities and decisions.
Quiet, Alone Time
I always set aside a few minutes to be with God with no distractions. Start with just five minutes to read a Bible verse and ask God to show you something. This time with God can grow and develop as time goes on.
Car Time
You can talk to God in the car - eyes open, of course! When we pray, we don’t have to always fold our hands and close our eyes. Sometimes that helps eliminate distractions, but God can hear you at any time.
Bed Time
Just as I start the day with God, I like to end the day with God. Talk through the day, ask forgiveness for mistakes, and give Him any of my stress and worries.
Prayers for Getting Through the Day
When you are thinking of things to pray for today, your words don’t need to be fancy. They can be simple, like:
“Lord, give me patience with my kids.”
“God, help me make the right decision.”
“Lord, I’m feeling anxious. Give me Your peace.”
“Holy Spirit, bring me into conversations about Jesus today.”
These simple prayers throughout the day will keep you connected to God and will guide you in His will.
When a situation arises and you don’t know how to pray, simply pray, “Lord, You are faithful. Thank you for being with me. Your will be done in my life.”
God Wants to Hear Your Prayers Throughout the Day
God longs for relationships with people, and He is jealous for our time. That's why he made us - to be in our lives!
However, there is no condemnation in any of this! We should just try to be a little better each day.
God is a loving father! He is for us and works all things together for our good. There is no fear in love! Just freedom, joy and a living hope!
So, let's get near to God.
