Maybe this is your first time learning about God or trying to read the Bible. That’s awesome!

One of the ways you can learn more about God is by reading the Bible. As Christians, we read the Bible to learn more about God and to hear what He has to say to us.

Why? Because life with God is a relationship. How good are your relationships with people you know nothing about, or who don’t say anything to you?

That’s not how life with God is! He desires to communicate with you through prayer and the Bible. Are you ready for the adventure?

What does the Bible Mean to a New Believer?

The Bible is God’s Word. It’s His great, true story of creation and His unconditional love for us. Bible verses for new believers can help reveal God’s character and His purpose.

Throughout the stories, we learn about God’s heart for his people. We gain a deeper understanding of our need for a Savior. And, as new Christians read scripture, they can learn God’s wisdom and plan for their own lives.

These Bible verses for new Christians can help believers gain a firm foundation in God’s truth, His promises, and His unconditional love for us.

Where Do I Start?

The Bible is a big book, with 66 smaller books inside it. A good place to begin is with these 10 verses we’ve listed below. They are important Bible verses to reflect on as a new believer.

How Do I Read Bible Verses?

First of all, simply read the verses a few times. Spend time thinking about the verses and what they mean. Try to memorize them! Talk with God (pray) about how you can apply these verses to your everyday life.

You can look them up in a Bible, or get the YouVersion Bible app so you have them with you all the time on your phone.

Where You Can Use These Verses as a New Believer

Applying scripture to our everyday lives gives the Bible meaning for beginners. As we read God’s word more and more, we can carry it with us through any circumstance.

The Bible is full of joy, pain, failures, and success. No matter what is going on in your life, the Bible can offer wisdom and comfort.

So, take these Bible passages for new believers and write them on notecards, your bathroom mirror, tape them to your computer, or make them your phone’s lock screen. Allow them to always be on your mind and in your heart.

10 Bible Verses about Salvation for New Believers

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. - Romans 10:9

New believers sometimes question, “What just happened? Did I really become a Christian? Am I actually saved?” This scripture reassures us all that if we declare that Jesus is Lord, and we believe the Gospel message that God raised Jesus from the dead, we are saved. We are promised eternal life in heaven with Jesus, where there is no more sickness, pain, or death.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. - John 14:6
Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation. - Isaiah 12:2
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him - John 3:16-17

This is perhaps the most well-known Bible verse, and for good reason. John 3:16 is a great summary of God’s love for us. He loves us so much that He gave His Son, Jesus, as a sacrifice for our sins. Jesus took our sin, took our place by dying for our sins, and He defeated death so that we can live forever with Him in heaven. That’s how much He loves us and wants a relationship with us.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. - Romans 6:23

If we could summarize the Gospel message in one verse, this is it. This is a great Bible verse to memorize and use when you have a faith conversation. Simply put, our lives were lost when we tried to do things on our own, but now God has given us eternal life through Jesus. There is nothing we can do to earn it. It is completely free, without conditions! You can read more about how to use this verse when sharing about your faith here: How to Explain the Gospel Using Just One Verse

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. - Ephesians 2:8-10

We haven’t been saved because of anything we did. We can’t brag that we’re better than anyone else. Our salvation was a completely free gift from God. God created us for a purpose. He created us with a purpose. We were created to do good works, to love God, and to love others.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. - 1 John 1:9

When we become a Christian, we don’t suddenly start living a perfect life. We still struggle with sin. Every Christian sins -- we have all missed the mark. This verse is a reassuring promise that when we confess our sins to God, He will forgive us and cleanse us so that we can start fresh.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! - 2 Corinthians 5:17

This is another good Bible verse for new Christians. Before following Jesus, we probably developed some bad habits that we now recognize as sin. Now that you are a believer in Christ, you are a new creation! You have the power of Christ in you. You are made new! You have a fresh start in life and can live without past guilt or shame. Ask God to help you live a new life for Jesus.

He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house. At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized. - Acts 16:30-33
Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. - Hebrews 7:25

10  Bible Verses to Connect with God

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. - Romans 8:38-39
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. - Isaiah 43:2

It is such good news that no matter what we’re going through, we have access to God and a free way to always connect with Him, no strings attached.

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” - Hebrews 4:16
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. - Hebrews 10:24-25

“The Day” here refers to the day of the Lord’s return. At the end of the Bible, in the book of Revelation, God is clear that He will come back for us who love Him and bring us into eternal glory. He even says He will wipe away every tear from our eyes. (Revelation 21:4)

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing.”-  John 15:5

The four chapters of John 14-17 are full of love and wisdom from Jesus. These words are extra precious to us as believers because these are some of the last words Jesus spoke to His disciples before He was crucified.

“You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.” - Psalm 63:1
“Come near to God, and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” - James 4:8
“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”- Hebrews 4:12

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” - Jeremiah 29:13
Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. - Psalm 1:1-2

10 Bible Verses to Find Peace in Chaos

Now that you’ve started your Christian faith, life isn’t going to be perfect all the time. Life still happens! Your debt won’t magically disappear, your relationship stresses won’t necessarily change overnight.

But, we can hold on to the promise that God will work for your good. He wants the very best for you. We may not understand it in our limited view of life and short-sighted perspective of this world, but we can trust that God will work on our behalf as we live out our purpose.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. - Romans 8:28
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. - Proverbs 3:5-6
Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning?Have you not understood since the earth was founded? He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in. - Isaiah 40: 21- 22

Sometimes it’s helpful to know that God is bigger than we are. Have you ever heard the song, “He’s got the whole world in His hands?” This song was written from passages like this in the Bible.

Commit your way to the Lord;  trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. - Psalm 37: 5-7
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. - Jeremiah 29:11
When I am afraid, I put my trust in you - Psalm 56:3
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. - Isaiah 43:2
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6-7
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” - John 14:27

Praise God we don’t have to be afraid! Jesus promises to always be with us. His Word says that He is working all things for the good of those who love Him. (Romans 8:28)

And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. - Mark 4:39

Bible Verses to Keep Your Faith Strong

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. - Galatians 5:22-23

This is an important Bible verse for new Christians because it shows us how we can live as believers. When we have a relationship with God, the Holy Spirit helps us produce good fruit in our lives. That good fruit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” - Isaiah 41:10
How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. - Psalm 119:9-11
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Most people ask themselves, “What am I supposed to do with my life?” As Christians, we ask, “What is God’s will for my life?” The Bible doesn’t necessarily tell you what specific career path you should take, but it does tell you God’s will for your life: Rejoice, Pray, Give Thanks. In any season of life, in any job, any neighborhood or school, God’s will is that we rejoice, pray, and give thanks.

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,  because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. - James 1: 2-3
For we live by faith, not by sight. - 2 Corinthians 5:7
He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” - Matthew 17:20

Do you know how small a mustard seed is? Mustard seeds are about 1-2 millimeters in diameter. We only need a little bit of faith to do big things in God.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. - Ephesians 6:10-12
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. - Galatians 6:9
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. - Philippians 4:13
